Barkatullah University was known as Bhopal University
previously and it was inaugurated in the year 1970. Barkatullah was the great
freedom fighter of Bhopal and after him the university was named as Barkatullah
University in the year 1988. The total land area of the University is around
400 acres. The University is situated along the Hoshangabad Highway and it is
about three kilometers away from the Habibganj railway station. The college is
very huge in terms of its buildings; there are different blocks for different
departments like administrative office, hostels, guesthouse, printing house,
press, canteen etc.
There are different departments for different courses
like Law block, Medical block, Engineering block, Life Sciences block, Physics
block etc. This university also has an open distance learning University. There
are also Institute of Technology and institute of Pharmacy in this university.
This university comprise of one hundred and seventy colleges, which are affiliated
by Barkatullah University. There are colleges of Ayurvedic, Homeopathy,
Physiotherapy, two colleges of education and one Engineering College.
The main motive of this college is to promote discipline
learning, teaching and research. The Barkatullah University is the best
University among the Bhopal Universities. The university offers higher
education and courses in Arts, Medical, Social Science, Law, Home Science,
Commerce, Technical Education, MBA, MCA and all these courses are affiliated by
this University.
There are eight districts, which are under territorial
jurisdiction of Barkatullah University; they are Raisen, Hoshangabad, Betul,
Bhopal, Vidisha, Rajgarh, Sehore, and Harda. The college campus is very huge
and it consists of different blocks, boys and girls hostel are in the campus
only. The students need to fill an application form to get admission in the
hostel.
National Service Scheme is a service that is sponsored by
Ministry of Human Resource and development; they take care of health, immunization,
tree plantation, environment improvement projects etc. There is also a social
center for the well being of the students; who take care of canteen services,
hostel admission, admission papers and examination question paper. The
university provides transportation to its students as they have their own
transport system. There is also a psychological counseling center that takes
care of the personal issues of the students and faculty.
The university has a minority cell whose responsibility
is to take care of students coaching related issues, this center also provides
proper guidance for courses and education related issues. The university has
its own computer center that was established in the year 1990. The center’s
system has AST Manhattan server, Motorola 68030 machines, IBM RS6000 Unix
server and there are number of nodes of LAN. The University has a large
library, which was made in the year 1972, but it was at Gandhi Bhawan then in
the year 1979 it was shifted in the campus. There are 71259 total books in the
library, 60 Sanskrit mss and 5703 thesis. The library has an inter book lending
loan facility that gives the students the leverage of borrowing books from
other Universities.
The courses offered by the University are Law, Medical
Science, Arts, Language, Computer Science, Engineering, Commerce, Psychology,
MBA, MCA and various other courses for Graduation and Post-Graduation like B.A.
in Languages, Psychology, Political Science, English, Hindi, Music. B.Sc. in
Chemistry, Zoology, Physics and Mathematics. There are many courses available
in MSc and M.A like M.A. in Arabic, Sociology in Languages, Political Science,
Sanskrit, English, Hindi and M.Sc. in Chemistry, Physics, Zoology, Physics,
Mathematics etc. The eligibility for the admission is different for all the
courses the common thing is the student should have atleast 55% in their
previous course for the admission in the second level of courses. The students
can also enroll in two courses at the same time.

The University will conduct common entrance test for admission to M.Phil and Ph.D programmes as per the Revised Ordinances No.20 and 14 respectively. The Entrance Test shall compromise of one Multiple Choice Objective type Question paper having question of one mark each, covering all the basic papers of the Post-Graduate level of the Concerned subject Eligible candidates desirous of seeking admission to the above programmes are required to submit their application on prescribed format with the requite fee of Rs.2500/- (Two Thousand and Five Hundred Rupees) for each programme by cash or Demand Draft drawn in favor of Registrar Barkatullah University, Bhopal. The form can be downloaded from the University's official website www.bubhopal.nic.in.
